It is with great pride and optimism that I welcome you to Olivia University Bujumbura (OUB)—a rising beacon of knowledge, innovation, and transformation in Burundi, East Africa, and beyond.

Since its establishment, OUB has remained true to its founding MISSION: to “Restore Humanity” — committed to expanding access to quality education, nurturing original research, and equipping students to make meaningful contributions to a more just, compassionate, and sustainable world. 

Our founding legislation, accredited in 2022, captures this spirit by mandating us “to promote sound learning, encourage original research and invention, and provide a liberal and practical education across the professions.”

OUB stands today as one of Burundi’s premier universities, committed to academic excellence and innovation. All our programmes are delivered in English, and we take pride in our beautifully designed academic spaces—particularly in Health Sciences, Engineering, Computing, and Management and Social Sciences. We are especially proud of our complex and modern laboratories in the Health and Engineering disciplines.

At present, we are undergoing a purposeful transformation aimed at improving service delivery and preparing for a steady increase in student enrollment. We are broadening our learning opportunities across undergraduate levels—and soon postgraduate programs—with a renewed focus on lifelong learning, industry relevance, and inclusive education.

We firmly believe that OUB programmes are of the highest quality, offering exceptional value and equipping graduates for success in their careers, communities, and personal lives—as professionals, leaders, and lifelong learners. Our quality standards are further validated by international recognition and accreditation.

OUB works closely with government agencies, health institutions, professional bodies, the banking sector, and other industries. Many of our programmes include industrial and professional placements as part of the curriculum, significantly enhancing the employability of our graduates.

Students in our diverse academic units—from Engineering (Architecture, Civil, Mining, and Telecommunication) and the School of Health Sciences (Medicine & Surgery, Nursing, and Pharmacy), to Management & Social Sciences (Banking & Finance, Accounting, Economics, and Business Administration)—are equipped to pursue a wide range of fulfilling and impactful careers.
